make your money beautiful

Money is not a subject that people discuss easily, in spite of the fact that we all have to deal with it. There are plenty of negative assumptions about money, for example, "money doesn’t bring happiness". These negative assumptions about money are based in very real experiences : both on a social and on a personal level, money is often used to exercise power over others and wealth is anything but equally shared throughout the world. However, money is not good or bad in and of itself, whether it is positive or negative depends on how it is used. More and more people realize that they can use money to fight against inequality in the world and to accomplish a more just society.

"Philanthropy for social change" is a modern concept that involves individuals using their money to support organizations, projects, and initiatives that are working toward positive social change. Changes in society that stimulate a more just world, creating greater economic opportunities and developing more (participatory) democratic governments, with respect for differences, the environment, and help for those who need it.

There are a number of factors nowadays in the western world that stimulate financial support for social change by individuals:
- a clear increase in individual wealth
- wealth is being inherited by the children of the postwar generation that earned well; often the children have also earned well, resulting in enough money to consider investing in society
- due to the devestment of government funding, the need to contribute to a variety of programs that were formerly funded by the government.
